We ordered our beers and waited for them to come. I have to say that the atmosphere was actually pretty good. To be fair it was still early in the day, but everyone was very friendly. There were no angry or belligerent drunks, and everyone was just there to have a good time. Now the beers were 8.50 which is a little expensive, but if you’re just going to have one beer and experience the fun that is Oktoberfest, it’s 8.50 well spent. We got our beers, tipped our kindly waiter generously since he had found us the seats, and met the people next to us.
All in all it was a great time and I’m glad we decided to brave the crowds. Once we were finished with our beers, we decided to meet up with everyone else somewhere in München. We texted them to find out where they were, and decided on a meeting point somewhere in the middle of town. I don’t have a great many pictures from this, since I’ve been to München many timesOnce we met up we thought about going to the Englischer Garten, but along the way ended up at a free concert and hung out there for a while.
At this point we were starting to get tired, hungry, and cranky, so we headed back toward the train station hoping to find a Kebab stand somewhere along the way. Sadly, whatever route we took did not have us going by any sort of food whatsoever. However, instead of food we encountered a makeshift Michael Jackson memorial at the base of a statue. Very strange. We wandered for a little while longer and finally found a Turkish place and grabbed some food. Tasty Turkish Treats…yummmm.
After that we headed back to the train station and waited for the train. Again, because this is Oktoberfest, the trains are pretty full. We tried to get everyone to meet up in the same place to get on the train, but Vera and I decided that gathering at the front of the train was not a good idea because everyone was there. Instead we headed further down the platform and texted a couple of the others to meet up with us. They either didn’t get the texts or didn’t understand what we were trying to say with them because Vera and I boarded the train by ourselves. The only problem with this plan was that we didn’t have any idea where we were supposed to get off the train, but it resolved itself with a series of text messages.
More about the train ride later.
